HP5 is a popular 400 black and white stock, that is sought after by students, professionals, and everybody in between. It is not my favorite 400 speed black and white, but if I’m considering how thin my pockets are, then I will definitely be grabbing a roll of this.
For the overall look, the grain is pretty even. It’s not too clear, but it really adds to the “vintage look”. The contrast isn’t too punchy, so I ended up doing some edits in Lightroom, for some shots, but not all of them.
I don’t hate the look of HP5, I think it can be promising, especially if you’re shooting on medium format, which that in itself is a different conversation. I think everyone should shoot it at least once to get a feel for it!
